Parts are introduced into the cell with a powered belt conveyor. The cell then utilizes robotic material handling to orient and flip parts for a 3D line scan. Each part is either sorted onto a ‘good’ or ‘rejected’ conveyor. Good parts are moved to a vision inspection station before they are then passed onto the pack out station.

  • There were large parts with complicated geometry.
  • A large number of inspection points were required.
  • Ergonomic manual inspection station was also needed.

1. Incoming Station

  • Robotic Material Handling

2. 3D Profile Line Scan Station

  • Inspections Include:
    • Surface Profile/Flatness
    • Hole Size/Position
    • Various Assembled Components Presence

3. Reject Station

  • Powered Belt Conveyors
  • Part Reintroduction Capable

4. Manual Vision Inspection Station

  • Inspections Include:
    • Quality
    • Part Picture Captures

5. Manual Packout Station

  • Crane Lift Assist
  • Packout Pallets
  • Incoming Conveyor
  • Robotic Par Handling
  • Part Flip Station
  • Servo driven 3D Profile Line Scan
  • Vision Inspection

Robotic material handling introduces the part to a system. Overflow material is removed through various operations including a robot-handled, servo-controlled saw and pneumatic press operation. The part is then moved to a laser marking station where a barcode is added to the part. Marking is verified before the robot removes the part.

  • The part manufacturing process develops large amounts of overflow material, which needs to be degated from the part.
  • The manufactured components required a method of data acquisition and part traceability at the die case process.

The part is manually loaded into a nest. Once the cycle start is triggered, the part is automatically clamped and transported through a 3D line scan inspection system. The part is converted into a 3D data point cloud, and analyzed for its dimensional integrity.

  • There were large parts with complicated geometry.
  • Many inspection points were required.
  • There were multiple parts with completely different forms.

  • Flexible Tooling Nests
  • Servo-Driven Platen
  • 3D Profile Line Scan from LMI
  • LMI Line Scanners
  • Flexible Tooling Nests
  • Schunk Linear Servo Belt Drive
  • Keyence Light Curtains
  • RTGC Controls
